Congratulations to Mr. Stephan’ R. Luss!!

Start Something Scholarship RecipientBig Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Louisiana (BBBS of NELA) is proud to announce the recipient of the 3rd annual BBBS of NELA “Start Something” Scholarship, Stephan’ R. Luss. Stephan’ is a participant of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, having completed the Civic Engagement Institute for Youth and BBBS’ Chase Leadership Academy. A 2017 graduate of Neville High School, Stephan’ has been very active both at school and in the community. During high school, he was an Officer of Neville’s Naval Junior ROTC, Neville Band Section Leader and Renaissance program award winner; all while taking Advanced Placement courses and working part-time. He also served as an active member Mt. Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Ike Byrd, as President of the Circle of the Chosen youth group and a member of the youth, adult and mass choirs.

Mr. Luss, along with his mother, Stephanie, celebrated his achievement Tuesday, May 2, during the 2017 Chase Leadership Academy recognition ceremony. Stephan’ will receive a one-time scholarship of $1,000 to help him meet his educational goals. He plans to attend ULM this fall where he will major in Nursing. Jacquiela Dorsey, Director of BBBS of NELA said, “Stephan’ is a young man who goes above and beyond, not only to meet goals but to exceed them and knock down any challenges along the way. It has been more than a pleasure being a part of this young man’s journey. BBBS strives to provide services to challenge, encourage and support students in Northeast LA.”  


The BBBS of NELA Start Something Scholarship is a one-time scholarship of $1,000, which is to be applied to post-secondary educational expenses upon successful completion of all high school requirements (Ex: tuition, books, etc.).


  • Cumulative 2.50 GPA
  • Must be a BBBS of NELA participant  (Includes summer workshops, High School Bigs, Chase Leadership Academy and Civic Engagement Institute)
  • Applicant must attend college or a technical school

NOTE: The Wellspring employees, children and relatives are ineligible to receive this award.
