Young people can be a powerful force for change! As future community, state and national leaders, young people have innovative ideas on how to solve the societal issues facing their communities. However, they often lack the understanding and skills to put their ideas to action. Simply, young people are often regarded as beneficiaries of public policy, not active participants in the process. Civic Engagement Institute for Youth is designed to educate and empower high school sophomores and juniors through the policymaking process.
The Civic Engagement Institute for Youth is designed to engage students in the democratic process and teach best practices of civic engagement. During the institute students from throughout the Lincoln Parish area will work together to identify issues, share ideas and design solutions to impact real change! On Day 2, their proposal will be presented to a panel of community leaders and policymakers.
Sponsored by Lincoln Parish ACHEIVE and the Ruston Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, this 2 day event brings high school sophomores and juniors together and serves as a forum to improve communication skills, identify community issues and empower students. Meals, snacks and door prizes will be provided! This event is free of charge for participants. **NOTE: Students will be requested to receive an excused absence from school to attend this special event**
